Bowling, smowling...it's all about the FOOD!

Brooklyn Bowl (Blue Ribbon)
61 Wythe Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11249
Located in Williamsburg

So, we know what you are thinking, a bowling alley is a fine dining establishment? Trust us, the food that comes out of the Blue Ribbon kitchen cultivates followers that rival twitter. We arrive at the Bowling alley which doubles as a hip performance space with a line wrapped around the block. We don’t participate in the line because we are repeat offenders who are only there for the food. The door man, manager, and head of security all know us and that we just want to eat. It is buzzing with energy live entertainment, bowling lanes and the oasis of the restaurant all housed in a huge warehouse-setting.

We then give our name and cell number to the hostess who will call us when our table is ready. Yes it is a bit of a process but it is ooh so worth it when finally we are seated. We order two Classic Margaritas with salt on the rocks. The Margarita is a respectable classic but has no bells or whistles but it would appeal to a margarita purist. The handsome bartender doubles as our waiter because we are seated at the bar. There is only beer from The Brooklyn Brewery on tap in Brooklyn Bowl where the Brooklyn Food Whores frequent do you sense a common theme here?

We order BBQ wings as a starter it is served with the most amazing blue cheese dressing.  The wings are other worldly tender fall off the bone with a sauce that is the perfect blend of tangy, spicy and sweet. The Blue cheese dressing however, is so good it could be on the menu served with a side of wings.  Ok for our entrée we order the fried chicken with a side of Mac and cheese and Mash potatoes. I am fully aware that we have double chicken and double starch. It is justified because we are double the fun and guilt has no place at the table. The fried chicken is a hella good people come from far and wide for this fried chicken that has even been featured on the food network. The Mac And cheese is among the best I have ever had featuring the same decadent Blue cheese that the blue cheese dressing is made of (warning it comes out as hot as molten lava). The Mash is classic and perfect in every way, it is the perfect accompaniment to the chicken.

We are appreciative for spandex, Lycra and spanx at this point because of course we are going to have dessert. The chocolate chip Bread pudding with Hot Fudge and Vanilla Ice Cream is a chocolate lover’s dream. This dessert is worth the drive, the line, the wait, and the reason why you would come to a bowling alley to eat.  The first bite is life-changing, you will experience euphoria-- total food porn!!!! You would think that this would be enough but no we cap it off with two Shots of Patron Café. Why you ask? Because Kessie is the definition of over the top. After this meal you will need a nap and two weeks of healthy living!!! Just know as you work out it was surely worth it.

Brooklyn Bowl is always a Strike. It is a sure fire dining must. We absolutely love this place and know that you will too.

Mangoseed - The Hidden Gem

Mangoseed
757 Flatbush Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11226
Located in Flatbush

Its official, we love our jobs! Who would've thought that fine dining could be had in the heart of Flatbush, Brooklyn. Well let us tell you now, it is possible. The hardest part is finding the restaurant sandwiched between a religious store & beauty salon. Once you enter the doors you are automatically transported into a modern, chic, Caribbean atmosphere very reminiscent of a posh Manhattan restaurant. Who says, Brooklyn does not have it all?

Our party of ten was quickly seated at a table in the rear. That's right, we brought reinforcement. Grandma Diva is along for the ride and if they can please even our toughest critic they have hit a home run. It was the tail-end of the brunch hour and our waiter patiently waited for us to make up our minds. We ordered our drinks and though they were bright and colorful they were a little lackluster. But, boy oh boy did the menu not disappoint. Dish after dish came out and we did not put our forks down until the very last bite. The one good thing about eating with family is that they're probably the only persons that will allow you to just jab your forks into their plate without pause or concern for their protest. Brunch turned into a family-style affair as we passed our plates around and stole precious bites the minute a plate was left unguarded. The food was that good. If we thought it appropriate to cheer out loud we would do just that. The jerk salmon had a robust flavor and was cooked to perfection. Paired with homemade waffles and you have an oral orgasm folks. (Yes, we know what we said)

But wait! There is so much more. Once we thoroughly cleaned our plates we noticed an influx of patrons walking to the back of the restaurant. Well, curiosity got the best of us once again. We strolled to the back through a door and stepped into Alice's Wonderland. What stood before us was a huge backyard with quaint tables that put you in mind of a tropical restaurant in the Caribbean minus the white sand beach. (You can't have everything)

The verdict is in...MangoSeed is Guilty as Sin for providing a wonderful fusion of Caribbean flavors! Give them a try and let us know your thoughts. We shouldn't be the only ones having all this fun.

Negril Village -- Welcome to Jamaica!

Negril Village
70 West 3rd Street
New York, NY 10012
Located in Greenwich Village

Ladies night is finally upon us and we ventured to the city to partake in Caribbean fare. We made a 7:30 reservation but apparently our table was being flown in from Jamaica. As we gnaw on the fake ginger lily floral arrangement at the hostess stand we're growing weaker with each passing second. What is the meaning of the word reservation? Possibly, it is a ploy to see just how long people are willing to wait. Boiling Point anyone?

Finally, after an hour wait the ladies wonderful new pumps were reminding us that a few rounds of strong, colorful cocktails & seats are definitely in order. Thankfully the shoe Gods were listening and we were escorted down the stairs to the lounge. It's a tad dark but very sleek and stylish. Only downside is that they may need to upgrade their air conditioning system because the lounge was warm & moist. That's a feeling that is not wanted outside of being on a tropical island or inside of a hot tub.

Thankfully the menu did not disappoint us. We started with the Negril sampler, jerk wings, and plantains. Oh wait they're out of plaintains. How? Why? Send someone around the corner to get some more. (Duh, problem solved) One thing for sure, they did not run out of alcohol & the bartender emptied the bar into our glasses. A little heavy-handed but who are we to complain. The entrees spilled out not too long afterwards. Oxtails, rasta pasta, and curry shrimp. Hmm, hmm good! The food was flavorful and our waiter was the icing on the cake. He was comical, helpful, and patient enough to deal with the likes of 6 hungry, slightly buzzed female diners.

The best part of eating in the downstairs lounge is stepping one feet away from your table to the dance floor to dance off all of the delicious calories you consumed. Ladies night was a hit and Negril did us well.

Lobo - Es Bueno

Lobo
188 5th Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11215
Located in Park Slope

On our quest to find the best margarita in Brooklyn our journey lead us to Lobo. Yes we are the Brooklyn Food Whores but ladies have to drink!!! We arrived twenty minutes before closing committed to trying the Margarita that came highly recommended.

Lobo has a warm dim Tex-Mex vibe with a neighborhood feel. Tribe called quest and Bone thugs in harmony is the sound track of the evening. The manager and bartender however would prove that superb customer service would turn a late night drink into an all-out bar food smorgasbord. Holding the kitchen for us is a sure fire way to make instant fans out of us!!!! We hoped the food and drinks would live up to the level of service we were provided.

We bellied up to the bar and started with the Pancho margarita, which is passion fruit with Ancho Chile infused tequila margarita and The Sangre de Lobo which is a cinnamon tequila margarita with blood orange puree. The bar consisted of a full bar and all the tequila that you could imagine. There was a wall that was home to many house infused tequilas like Ginger, Cinnamon, Strawberry, Ancho Chile, Jalapeño, Serrano, and more. We were clearly in Margarita heaven. The passion fruit with Ancho Chile has a wicked bite that kept you coming back for more. The Sangre de Lobo is a warm blend of spice and Tangy citrus that makes you warm and fuzzy inside.

Out came the food in true Texas style huge serving size a double order of wings Buffalo and BBQ Chipotle, Chips, salsa, and Guacamole!!! We are in need of a major work out; there is enough food here to feed a small army. The wings were tantalizing to the taste buds with the right balance of heat. The chips and Salsa was amazing; you could drink that salsa like soup and they give you enough so that you can do just that. The Guacamole dish was clean as a whistle no washing necessary when we were done.

An ice cold corona capped the evening off… Don’t judge us we are foodies we never claimed to be fitness gurus!!!

After the warm hospitality, awesome food and the best margaritas we have had anywhere to date I would say LOBO is a must go and sooner rather than later and as often as possible!!

Everything tastes better with Sazon or does it?

Sazon
105 Reade Street
New York, NY 10013
Located in TriBeca

So we are at a birthday celebration number……… I don’t know I have lost count for the essie in Kessie. We arrive to a festive environment that is swank and has a great bar. Every day is a celebration for us so let’s get the good times rolling cocktails all around. We start out with mango mojitos, and margaritas to get the party started. The waiter was flirty, warm and inviting in that sexy Latin way that we enjoy so much. The mojito among the best we have tried and the Margarita was a yummy island potion that was intoxicating. For our Aperitivos (appetizer) is the assortment of Empanadas very tasty savory filling with a flaky crust. This place is filled with Island spice complete with a Salsa serenade if it is your birthday. It has the kind of energy that makes you want to dance with the people at other tables or feel as though you had been on an exotic vacation. When our Entrees came out they did not disappoint The arroz con Pollo (rice and chicken) was delightful and the Pargo Entero (whole Snapper) was a show stopper. The presentation was amazing and flavorful to boot. My favorite part was the Salsa dance party that came to our table singing and bringing chocolate molten cake and Guava cheesecake. Heck… it felt like my birthday I digress. The cake was sinful and delicious but the Guava cheesecake was the Queen of the show. I myself am not a fan of cheesecake but this was a masterpiece. Our visit to Sazon was a well needed Island getaway but the MOUSE that we saw in the dining room was an abrupt return to reality. The silver lining, the free Coffee patron shots is our new fave……

Will we rush back to Sazon...not so much...

SoCo or NoGo

SoCo
509 Myrtle Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11205
Located in Fort Greene

We're getting the hang of this. Running late as usual but so is the entire dinner party which suits us just fine. Pre-dinner cocktails at the bar is great. OMG! There is a $5 margarita special! Someone must've called ahead and told them it's my birthday. YEAH ME! Drinks were not bad especially for the price. However, the hunt for the perfect margarita continues. The bartender is charming but a little fresh. Who are we kidding, that is exactly how we like them especially when he is picking up the tab.

What can be better than free drinks? A Pre-fixe menu for $25 for the ladies. (sorry fellas it's only for the estrogen species no testosterone allowed) The price includes a glass of rose moscato, choice of appetizers, entree, and dessert platter. We tried the F-que wings that are very tasty. We also sampled the SoJazzy salad with the fried goat cheese that is well executed.

Okay now on to the main course which We decided to try the infamous buttermilk fried chicken & red velvet waffles. Folks it is good as they say. (who the heck is they, we have no clue! Lol) the chicken is moist and tasty. The waffle taste much lighter than it looks which was a pleasant surprise. The Asian BBQ Baby Back Ribs with collard greens made us feel some type a way. But, nothing could've prepared us for the Mac & Cheese. All hail the chef at SoCo. I would give up my first born child and slap my mother just to get another crack at it. It is THAT GOOD!

Last but not least the dessert was just enough to suck down without regrets. Its a good thing we look good in spandex. (Don't judge us) Our waiter was pleasant & attentive. Women pay for this type of attention from a man. Oh wait, we are paying for it.

SoCo is Bueno and a must GO!

To Eat or Not to Eat? That is the question.

Alpha Fusion
189 8th Avenue
New York, NY 10011
Located in Chelsea

You have been granted an all access pass to our dining voyage. This is the first of many posts as we embark on pleasurable (hopefully), delectable experiences that tantalize our palette. Ironically we're not in Brooklyn anymore. Regardless of the locale, great food & friends are always our aim.

First up is Alpha Fusion 2 located at 169 8th Avenue in Chelsea. Let us start by saying that the staff is just delightful. Appetizers consisted of Thai crispy crab cakes & cheese wontons. One word...scrumptious! Unfortunately, we cannot share photos of everything because we were more concerned with shoveling food down our throats and neglected to document it. (our bad...whoopsie) Main dishes consisted of tofu pineapple fried rice & spicy shrimp chow fun. Let us sum up our experience, food was very good, drinks a little too strong for our delicate palettes but immediately rectified. Bartender is a PYT and takes direction well. Pretty certain that we're browsing two different shelves (wink, wink) but everyone enjoys good eye candy.

Of course, we are celebrating my B'day and received a delicious celebratory treat, best part is it was $free.99 just the way we like it. Followed by our new all time favorite, Patron Cafe shots. Duh winning! Suffice it to say, Alpha Fusion is a MUST EAT. We're already anticipating a follow-up visit to sample the sushi. It looked delish.
